Everyone is uniquely wonderful, and deserves to be treated and respected as an individual. We have become who we are from our life events, learnings we have taken on board from people we have spent time with, and the information we have taken on board, ever since the day we were born. Our relationships with friends, family and colleagues are based upon who we are and how we have learned to behave through experience. Everyone has strengths in some form or another. Sometimes we are not yet aware of how many resources we have within our personality. That is why it helps to see a therapist who will treat you as a unique individual. The therapeutic relationship between client and therapist is the basis to helping you reach a successful outcome. Barrie is qualified as a counsellor to post graduate level. He believes that attentively listening to a client, possibly more sensitively and empathically than you have ever been taken notice of before, can help build a strong foundation for change. NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)
NLP is the study of subjective experience. This means working in or around the sensory systems of a person: Visual, Auditory, Kinaesthetic, Olfactory and Gustatory. In other words, what we see, hear, feel, taste and smell. Although NLP gives us many different techniques to help people, it is the flexible use of this approach that really brings results. This approach can bring you rapid change, where other methods have failed to hit the mark.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desentisisation Reprocessing)
EMDR is a high effective model of psychotherapy. EMDR is being used more by medical professionals in their work. This helps the client to 'link and connect' all the parts of the mind and brain; which can help the person change how they think, feel and behave. Again, this model can bring rapid results where other methods may not have hit the mark. (EMDR is a NICE compliant evidence based therapy, used widely both in the NHS and in private practice.)
Each life experience has an impact in some way or another, on how we approach our day-to-day living. Significant events can make our life 'now' less than fulfilling and can stop us from achieving the results we want. A Timeline therapist uses the client's own internal 'timeline' and to elicit a facilitate a compelling and happier future.
HST (Hypno Sensory Therapy)
HST was developed by Barrie and continues to bring consistent, excellent results. It uses everyday items and props to help facilitate change for the client. It provides Barrie and the client with many creative strategies to produce change.
Gestalt Therapy (including Empty Chair Work)
Gestalt Therapy is an experiential therapy. It is more concerned with helping the client 'experience' rather than understand. Understanding itself might not be the key to change. Gesalt therapy helps you to go through your own healing process to help safely resolve problems. Gestalt Therapy helps you to 'tap into your flexibility and creativity'.
When a child grows up traumatized, often he or she has to hide that trauma and act normal because the adult is frightened of experiencing the same emotional distress again. Working therapeutically with your inner child can have a huge positive effect on your life. Barrie can tentatively and creatively assist you in communicating with that 'younger you' and help facilitate about a profound healing.
Focussing is a therapy which helps the client into a more focussed awareness and a bodily connection of particular feelings. This can be useful to gain a deeper awareness as you listen to the messages received from within that area.
Solution Focussed Therapy
In Solution Focussed Therapy we target the 'solutions' to your problem. Together we use current resources and and future hopes rather than the present problems and past causes. We may look at your own coping resources and use your strengths to create more clear goals towards a resolution to your problem.
Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis is a natural state of mind and body. When used by an experienced professional, it is completely safe in every way. When you are hypnotised you are not asleep or out of control. You are in a concentrated state of deep relaxation where you can link and connect your inner mind and resolve issues and problems you may have been experiencing up to now. Barrie believes that hypnosis is the key to effective change; it is a state where a person can fully engage and tap into any resources that may be needed to gain positive results. Barrie holds a diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy, accredited by The British Medical Hypnotherapy Examination Board.
