Frequently Asked Questions
What happens at my first Consultation/Initial Assessment?
The first appointment is an Initial Assessment. The Initial Assessment Consultation is an opportunity for you to meet each other, discuss your problem, for Barrie to take a note of your history, and for you both to discuss your goals/outcomes from the therapy. Barrie will also give you an honest opinion as to whether he feels hypnotherapy/psychotherapy/counselling would be beneficial to your problem.
What happens during Therapy Consultations?
If you have never been to see a therapist or counsellor before, please be aware that everything you say will be treated in the strictest of confidence. Barrie will listen to your wants and needs from therapy, and after he has completed an Initial Assessment, he will encourage you to share your thoughts and feelings about what is bothering you. During therapy Consultations, Barrie will work creatively to help you to process your feelings and reach a more comfortable place.
How long is a Consultation?
Generally, each Consultation takes around 60 minutes.
What is expected from me as a client?
If you are thinking of coming to see Barrie for therapy, please be aware that you will need a certain amount of self-motivation in order to make some changes in your life. In other words, you will need to be willing to change for yourself, and not because someone else suggested that you see a therapist. You will need to be willing to attend under your own steam and have sufficient motivation. Barrie is not going to 'do' to you, or 'make-you' change. Depending upon what you have come along to see Barrie for, he may suggest that you purchase a self-help recording from New Way Productions. This will be for you to listen to inbetween your appointments and sometimes for after your therapy has ended. The self-help recording will help to compound the work that you have done together.
What will my therapist provide during each Consultation?
Barrie will treat you with respect. Barrie always has the best intention in mind for each individual client. He will provide a safe, trusting and confidential environment for you to work together as a team. He will remind you in many therapeutic ways that you are valued and respected. Barrie will help you both develop a professional trusting relationship as he listens to you express your difficulties. He will work flexibly and creatively, using different tools within his therapy toolbox to help you to the best of his ability. If at any time Barrie feels you would not benefit from further therapy, he will inform you and suggest an alternative route. Barrie will treat everything that you say with the stictest of confidence.
How do I pay for my Consultation(s)?
Cash is preferred, but you can pay prior to each Consultation by bank transfer. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for further details of how to pay by bank transfer.
What if I need to cancel or change an appointment?
We respectfully ask you give at least 48 hours notice, so that your appointment time can be offered to another client. If you have already paid for your Consultation and have to cancel, you will be given a full refund, providing you give at least 48 hours notice.
